The Mission

The Center for Regenerative Design (CRD) educates local community members and collaborates with higher education institutions including the College of Marin and Dominican University, the County of Marin and local organizations and businesses to develop programs that highlight alternatives to support a sustainable future. CRD utilizes Marin County as its extended sustainability education campus in its collaboration with the numerous organization promoting sustainable practices.

In the higher education sector CRD promotes regenerative design principles that integrate living systems and built environments to create adaptive, self-renewing systems. A green campus, for example, integrates ten systems: Energy, Water, Built Environment, Material Resources and Waste Re-use, Food, Land Regeneration, Transportation, Health and Well-Being, Academics and Culture, and Community. In the non-profit and commercial sectors CRD develops sustainability education opportunities through internships and education programs. CRD acts as the education bridge with the County of Marin in its efforts to educate the community as it implements the sustainability themes of its countywide plan.

The Center for Regenerative Design will:
  • Collaborate with the College of Marin (COM), Dominican University’s (DU), Marin County and local organizations to develop sustainability education programs, internships, and local economic development for emerging green businesses.
  • Collaborate with COM and DU to develop educational classes including professional certificate programs and workshops focusing on sustainability principles and practices.
  • Sponsor public lectures, round tables and workshops that share valuable visions and practical solutions that create more sustainable campuses and communities.
  • Facilitate the introduction of comprehensive regeneration plans for the COM and DU campuses that include the ten systems that form a sustainable campus.
